Theresa Hammons – Information Session about Reece Museum and its Reopening
Theresa Hammons has served as the Reece Museum Director since 2006. Prior to coming to ETSU, she was a curatorial research assistant at the National Museum of the American Indian (NMAI). There she assisted with the opening inaugural exhibitions of the then new museum. While at NMAI Mrs. Hammons has also worked in the collections department where she assisted with moving the 800,000 artifact collection from New York to Suitland, Maryland. Mrs. Hammons also worked at Appalachian State University’s Appalachian Museum and Berea College’s Appalachian Museum. Mrs. Hammons holds here B.A. in Appalachian Studies from Berea College and her MA in Appalachian studies from Appalachian State University. Mrs. Hammons has significant experience conducting oral histories, curating exhibitions, and managing collections. While at the Reece Museum, Mrs. Hammons spear headed the American Alliance of Museums (AAM) subsequent reaccreditation process, museum policies and procedure have been created and implemented, collections care and management have significantly increased, fundraising has expanded, and publicity and marketing the museum has increased. Mrs. Hammons will serve as project coordinator, as well as help identify artifacts and archival materials, be responsible for grant reporting, and lead efforts in fund raising.
