Virginia Intermont Dressage Wins 12th Consecutive Regional Title

Sierra Mills

The Virginia Intermont College Intercollegiate Dressage Team returned from the Feb. 26 show at Wake Forest University (Winston-Salem, N.C.) with their 12th consecutive regional victory.

“I often ask myself how we are able to do this year after year,” said Lisa Terry, coach of the Intermont dressage team. “It takes everyone to get to this point, and the dedication and determination of the students and faculty in the equine program is what does it.”

Virginia Intermont (VI) Team A handily beat Virginia Tech Team B, 18 to 13. VI Team B placed third over other schools in the region – Appalachian State, Wake Forest University, Elon University and Salem College.

Individual highlights include three champion finishes: Ariel Black’s (Sandy, Utah) 70.86% in First Level, Erin Robert’s (Wilmington, N.C.) 71.61% in Upper Training Level and Andrea Bullen (DeLand, Fla.) in the Intro Level. Erin Roberts was also the reserve high point rider.

With one show remaining in the season on March 18 at Virginia Tech, VI has mathematically clinched the regional championship and an automatic berth to the Intercollegiate Dressage Association’s (IDA) National Championships at Centenary College (Long Valley, N.J.) in April.

VI has been undefeated in the region every year since IDA’s inception in 2001. The final show will also determine individual regional standings for the Intermont riders. In addition to 12 regional titles, the VI dressage team also has three national titles and one reserve national title under its belt.
