Chris Matthews and Michael Beschloss will speak at College

Political analyst Chris Matthews and presidential historian Michael Beschloss will speak at events at Virginia Intermont College this fall as part of the Bristol Public Library’s “Discovery Series.”

The events are part of the library’s first annual “Worldview Scholarship Series,” offering area students a luncheon with the presenters, followed by public programs in Virginia Intermont’s Harrison-Jones Memorial Hall. The programs are provided through a grant to the library from the late Albert C. Noble.

Beschloss will speak Saturday, Sept. 13 at 1:30 p.m. An American historian specializing in the U.S. presidency, he is a  graduate of Williams College and Harvard Business School. He wrote several books, including his latest, “Presidential Courage: Born Leaders and How They Changed America.” He also received critical acclaim for his book, “At the Highest Level: The Inside Story of The End of the Cold War.” He appears frequently on PBS and ABC and serves as Presidential Historian for NBC News. He also won an Emmy for his role in creating “Decisions That Shook the World,” which aired on the Discovery Channel.

Matthews’ appearance is set for Saturday, Oct. 4 at 1:30 p.m. The host of “Hardball With Chris Matthews” on MSNBC,and “The ChrisMatthews Show” on NBC, he is a television news anchor with remarkable depth of experience as a broadcast journalist, having covered such events as the fall of the Berlin Wall, the election in South Africa and the Good Friday Peace Talks in Northern Ireland.He is the author of four best-selling books and has been a visiting fellow of Harvard University’s John F. Kennedy School of Government. He holds 16 honorary degrees.

Tickets are not required to hear Michael Beschloss. It is free and open to the public.
